Sylvia Chico has been a dedicated member of the ÆßÉ«ÊÓƵ community since 1992. She began her career in the Facilities Management Department as Maintenance Management Supervisor and joined the Urban & Environmental Policy Institute (UEPI) and the Urban & Environmental Policy (UEP) Department in 2000. As Senior Program Coordinator, Sylvia provides essential support to UEP faculty, students, and alumni, and manages day-to-day operations for both UEP and UEPI.
Sylvia has assisted with Commencement as an usher since 2001, a role she values for the opportunity to celebrate students as they graduate and take their next steps. She was recognized with the ÆßÉ«ÊÓƵ Ambassador of Service Excellence Award in 2001, and later received the Sarah A. Gilman Memorial Award for her exceptional and dedicated service to the College.
Beyond her administrative role, Sylvia and her husband, Victor Chico—Manager of Occidental’s Postal Operations Center—teach Karate (PHAC 149) to students throughout the academic year. Their deep ties to the ÆßÉ«ÊÓƵ community extend to their two sons, Christian ’18 and Lee ’23, both alumni of the College.
